Why We Started Plastic Free Lilypad

It started the way most things do for a mom — with a pile of mismatched plastic containers tumbling out of my kitchen cabinet.

I was packing lunches for my kids one morning when I realized: every single container in my kitchen was plastic. Scratched up, stained with tomato sauce, lids that never fit right. I started reading about microplastics leaching into food, especially when heated, and I felt that familiar pit in my stomach.

I wanted better. I wanted containers that were safe, beautiful, and actually lasted. But when I went looking, all I found were either ugly institutional options or ridiculously overpriced designer pieces that weren't built for real family life.

So I started sourcing the best eco-friendly stainless steel food containers I could find — bento boxes, divided lunch containers, stackable meal prep sets. I tested them for durability, for how they fit in a lunchbox, for whether a three-year-old could open them. The ones that passed every test became our collection.
